Tawang: The Land of Monasteries and Mountains

 

Tawang is a spiritual and scenic marvel, home to the largest Buddhist monastery in India. Perched at a high altitude, it offers breathtaking views of the Eastern Himalayas, including the dramatic Sela Pass and cascading Nuranang Falls. It's a land of vibrant Monpa culture, ancient traditions, and serene lakes like Madhuri Lake (Sangestar Tso), making it a significant pilgrimage and tourist destination.


 

Ziro: Valley of the Apatani Tribe

 

Moving south from the higher Himalayas, Ziro Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Tentative Site, celebrated for its unique Apatani tribe and stunning landscapes. Known for their sustainable farming practices (especially rice-fish cultivation) and distinctive facial tattoos/nose plugs on older women, the Apatanis offer a rich cultural experience. The valley is characterized by terraced paddy fields, pine groves, and bamboo forests, and hosts the popular Ziro Music Festival.


 

Daporijo: Confluence of Cultures

 

Daporijo, situated on the banks of the Subansiri River, is a melting pot of diverse ethnic cultures, primarily the Tagin, Hill Miri, and Galo tribes. It's a stopover point offering picturesque views of rice fields and rainforests. While less touristy, it's known for its traditional bamboo bridges, local handicrafts, and the opportunity to experience authentic tribal life and festivals.


 

Along (Aalo): The Land of Rivers

 

Aalo, formerly known as Along, is the headquarters of the West Siang district and lies at the confluence of the Sipu and Yomgo rivers. It's renowned for its scenic beauty, hanging bridges made of cane and bamboo, and is a hub for adventure activities like river rafting. The town provides a glimpse into the Adi tribe's culture and their unique way of life amidst lush green surroundings.


 

Pasighat: Gateway to Arunachal

 

Pasighat, known as the "Gateway to Arunachal Pradesh," is the oldest town in the state, founded in 1911. Situated on the banks of the mighty Siang River (which becomes the Brahmaputra in Assam), it's a paradise for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. It's popular for river rafting, angling, and exploring the Daying Ering Wildlife Sanctuary. The area is culturally rich, primarily inhabited by the Adi tribes.


 

Tengapani: Serenity and Spirituality

 

Located near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, Tengapani is a serene destination known for its lush landscapes, pristine rivers, and tea estates. It serves as a tranquil getaway, offering opportunities for relaxing picnics by the Tengapani River, walks through tea gardens, and visiting the nearby Golden Pagoda (Kongmu Kham) in Namsai, which is a significant Buddhist temple and a major draw for its spiritual ambiance and beautiful architecture.

Itineraries

Day 1

Arrival

On arrival, we will welcome you at Guwahati Airport. Then, we will move towards Nameri National Park. After a 5 hours journey from Guwahati we will check in at our resort/hotel for a relaxing stay. The people inhabitaing around the national park belongs to either Bodo tribe or Mishing tribe, which are tribes of Assam. Overnight at Nameri.

Day 2

To Dirang

After Breakfast, We will leave for Dirang following the age old trade route through the mountains of Arunachal Pradesh. Dirang is a beautiful valley situated at an altitude of 4910 ft. The people of Aka tribes, which belong to one of the many tribes of Arunachal, resides near Bhalukpong. Bhalukpong falls on the way to Dirang. In Dirang, the tribal people belongs to the community of Gidu or Monpa. Overnight stay at hotel in Dirang valley.

Day 3

To Tawang

Today, we will start our journey towards Tawang. It is perched on a vast slope of Himalayan mountainside. After light meal we are back on the way to one of the highest motorable Pass of northeast India- the Sela Pass (13700 ft.). The approach to Sela is usually marked by Fog, traces of landslides and imperfect roads. Tawang has mostly been remembered only in times of war (1962 Indo Chinese war). After check in at hotel & sightseeing, Overnight at Tawang.

Day 4

Tawang Sight Seeing

After breakfast, pay a holly visit to Tawang Monastery also known as Galden Namgya Lhatse, which is India’s largest and Asia’s second largest Buddhist Monastery. Mesmerise by the architecture and traditional art forms of these sacred shrine. Also explore age old artefacts and other related items belonging to Tawang Monastery and Mompa people in Tawang Museum. Stop by a beautiful stupa, Tawang War Memorial; in memory of great Indian soilders who lost their life in 1962 Sino-Indian war. Shop for beautiful carpets woven by local ladies and traditional masks from Craft Centre Emporium. Enjoy light and sound show in the evening. Return to your hotel for overnight stay in Tawang.

Day 5

Sight Seeing

After breakfast we go sightseeing in and around Tawang. We visit Heart Lake, PTSO lake and Sangetsar Lake, Naghula Lake & Bumla-The indo china Border(If Possible) and Return to your hotel.We will also visit the nearby tribal villages today. After visiting these beautiful places relax at hotel

Day 6

To Bomdila

Today, we will move towards another excitement of the trip Bomdila. After checking in to hotel we will come out for a local sightseeing of Bomdila which offers wonderful panoramic views of Himalayan landscapes and snow-clad ranges. There are beautiful apple orchards and Buddhist monasteries. Overnight will be at Bomdilla.

Day 7

To Itanagar

After checking out early in the morning, we will take you to Itanagar, which is the capital of the state of Arunachal. It is a pleasant 10 hrs ride from Bomdila. During the journey to Itanagar, we will take you to the possible sightseeing spots in the route. The Nyishi tribes of Arunachal Pradesh lives in these parts of the stae. Check in to the hotel in the evening. Overnight in Itanagar.

Day 8

To Ziro

Today, after having breakfast, visit to the Museum and the local market. Then, leave for Ziro through the beautiful hilly roads. On the way pay a visit to Tribal Nyishi village, where you will get to see their unique bamboo architectures. Stay overnight at hotel in Ziro.

Day 9

Ziro Sight Seeing

After breakfast, we will come out the whole day for sightseeing at Ziro, located 5754 feet above the sea level and it is the headquarter of the Lower Sabunsiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. It is a highland surrounded by Apatani tribal villages of Diibo, Hija, Bulla, Hari and Hong. The uniqueness of Apatani tribe is the tattoos on women & man body and nose rings worn by women. Overnight stay at Ziro.

Day 10

To Daporijo

Today, we will move towards another colorful tribal area – Daporizo. It is the junction of Hill Miris, Tagins and Adi-Gallongs tribal. Enroute, visit Nyishi & Tagin villages. Overnight at Daporizo.

Day 11

To Along

After breakfast, we will move towards Along. It’s again a 7 hours journey from Daporijo to Along. Along is situated on the bank of Siang River at altitude of 1020 ft. Along is the land of Adi tribe. The adi tribe is the most inhabited tribe of Arunchal Pradesh. Overnight at Along.

Day 12

Along Sightseeing

After having breakfast, we will be out for a full day at Along to explore the Adi villages. We will try to explore the villages as much as possible. Again back to hotel in Along.

Day 13

To Pasighat

After breakfast, we will move towards Pasighat. It is located at a distance of 145 Kms form Along on the bank of river Siang. It is the land of two famous tribes Passi and Minnyiong. Over night at Pasighat.

Day 14

To Dibrugarh

After breakfast, drive for Dibrugarh and crossed the mighty river Brahmaputra by ferry and check-in at hotel for overnight stay in Dibrugarh. After spending two and half weeks amidst hills now we are in plains.

Day 15

To Tengapani

After breakfast, our drive will start for Tezu. We will visit villages of Mishmi tribes and many others during our journey. Stay overnight in Tengapani.

Day 16

To Parasuramkund

After breakfast, we will start exploring the tribal villages in Tengapani and. This area is home to the people of Mishmi and Khamti tribes. We will also visit the Holy Parshuram Kund where thousands of Hindu pilgrims from all over India come to take a holy dip and wash away the sins of millions of births. Finally back to hotel in Tengapani.

Day 17

To Dibrugarh

After breakfast, drive back to Dibrugarh and try to meet more tribes during journey. After reaching Dibrugarh check-in at hotel for overnight stay there.

Day 18

Final Day

We will pick you up from the Hotel according to your departure time and drop you at Airport, Dibrugarh with sweet memories.
